Story Crops #3

This story has caught my attention due to the fact that Roger, the student, dropped out on his Senior year. Me begin a Senior and almost finished with the year was shocked by the small description that was under the title. "It's his last year..how can he drop out there?" is what circled my mind after reading such thing, I find it very shocking and unbelievable when I hear about someone from somewhere dropping out on their Senior year because they're so close of finishing, and going though Kindergraden-11th grade to just stop all the work you have been doing for probably 12 years.
I haven't noticed the edits, due to the fact that they still kept the questions in, so that interview really flowed well, and was easy to follow since it did not jump around. Hearing more about what happened after he had dropped out made me shake my head because it's true in life how some teens just work for 12 years and decides to end all their hard work to work somewhere like a loading dock, or something else around that. It's actually sad to be honest, because I just can't understand what goes through their minds when they make that choice.

This was funny to me, because my mom did somewhat the same thing when she was young, getting in trouble by her actions. While this was playing, I was imagining my mother's childhood, which made me laugh a bit more. I have also found this even interesting because Berryl is now a Judge, so must people see Judges and strict people who probably grew up in a duel childhood with a lot of rules set on them; but Berryl proved that wrong. My childhood wasn't as crazy has hers, I was actually more afraid to get in trouble, because I always felt that if I were to get in trouble once, then I would flunk. It was enjoyable to listen about how someone else acted in school and still turned out to be a judge. This shows that you can always turn your life around even if it's at an early age.
Though still having the idea that school is not the place to try out your comedy act, it still was funny to hear about how even when the teacher tried to get her to sit down, she still continued on because she noted that "She was on a roll, and had the kids on the palm of her hands" Maybe this is what all class clowns try to accomplish before getting in trouble, wanting to get that chance to "control" the kids before being sent away. I sometimes think about what is the joy in being a class clown when some kid "tries" to be funny and faces the chance of possbily getting in trouble. Guess I know now

Story Crop #2

Wow..while looking through Story Crops for a story to listen to, I spotted this story by just the title has caught my interest and made my jaw drop. Eager to listen to the explanation this story had about the title it made for itself, I clicked play. Listening to this woman's story about having a "mother-son" like relationship with this young man who has killed her real son was unbelievable. My eyes widen and the words "wow" escaped my mouth after almost every sentence. To me, this story was strangely touching due to the fact that most people that has a family member killed by someone else will never forgive and forget. "I began to say, "I just hugged the man that killed my son"...I knew that all the anger I had for this man..was over."-Mary Johnson. This shows me that actions do speak louder than words if that simple yet strong, emotional action could change a woman's mind after so many years of hurt. I could say that Mary forgiving the young man and has, in a way, taken him under her wing was very sweet and heartwarming. Keeping him away from gangs, drugs, and violence. Making sure that Oshea has the chance to get married or go to college. The chance that Mary's actual son never got.

The short description under the title has caught my attention do to the fact that I had somewhat a similar thing with my fifth grade teacher, so I kind of connected with the story. I found it funny at the beginning then touching at the end. Only the beginning part of the story is what I really connected with. We both had fifth grade teachers that were a bit difficult to work with. Both of our teachers had some sort of feature that made them stick out. For Don, his teacher, has he describied it, had a "hawk like" nose. For my teacher, she had one eye that would barely open. She also would rarely smile. This story was really humorous by how similar our problems were. This goes to show that you would really enjoy a story more if you can find a way to connect with it. For me, it would be the difficult fifth grade teacher. I liked how this story had a combination of both humor and heartwarming. It went together well because the story flowed good enough for the two to connect.

CPR-blog

While looking at books I had, I found this particular book in my room that I know I didn't read. I was called "Kindred". I read the back to see what it was about and it caught my interested. About an African-American woman who was snatched away from her California home on her 26th birthday to the antebellum South. I was shock after just reading this small description. I want to know what happened next. Questions already filled my mind by one paragraph, so I can't wait to see what other twist and turns this book would bring me. What really caught my attention was near the end of the brief description where it said "Yet each time Dana's sojourns become longer and more dangerous, until it is uncertain whether or not her life will end, long before it has even begun." That made me think: "oh wow, I wonder what it means by this?! is she going to live or die? and how?!" I enjoy endings that make me wonder.

Very quickly skimming through the pages, I see a lot of parts that I just want to stop at and read, but I rather not jump head. I'm quite surprised that this book has caught my interest. It's quite rare for a book to do so and there was only a few that managed to do so, like "The Great Gatsby", "Mother Night", or "A long way Home". This book is now in my list of interesting books. I hope this book gets approved because I want to start reading and seeing what's going to end up happening.

Audio Stories

1)

I choose this story because the brief description caught my eye. I always wondered how most people became homeless and how they live through not having a home to live in and not always getting a meal to eat. Decided to hear her story, I clicked it. I was shocked by what she explained to me, how first she lost her job, than her money, last her home. At first, I was confused when she told me that her daughter offered to take her in, yet Queen didn't think that it was right for her to live with her daughter because kids are not suppose to take care of the parent, the parent are suppose to take care of the kid. That's how Queen saw it.
I could tell the emotions in her voice. When she sniffled, I felt that that was a touching moment for her. The part where she told how she wanted to give her daughter a birthday card real bad, but didn't have the money to do so. At the point where she explained how a guy gave her 10 dollars for her to by the card, I could hear how thankful she was at the moment, it made me say "aww" at the point because I could tell it really meant a lot for her. I also liked how she used the money to buy something for someone who is already doing well, instead of buying something for herself. I know now how tough the economy could really be, it scares me a bit.

2)

This funny story threw a lot of curve balls at me, which is probably why I grew a liking to this story. At the begging, Martin talked about how he disliked this girl in his class, I thought that he was going to talk about how they would have battles and pull pranks on each other, but when he said that he married her and they stayed together for a long time, that put a shocked expression on my face. I was expecting him to say that they're still enemies till this day, but he did. I still found that pretty neat how they could set aside their differences. The tone in his voice told me that this was going to be a funny story, along with the bits of laughter that was thrown into the story.
I enjoyed how Martin had a main story to tell, then had mini stories that followed the same subject as the main story. All of the stories he told were both funny and sweet. I laughed at some points and said "aww" and other points, but there were times where I forgot what the main story was about. I enjoyed the jokes he made through out the story because they weren't random, they fit the moment. Not trying to be a comedian, just telling the story how it went. It as a great twisting story.
